We received a letter from the Census Bureau yesterday reminding us we would be receiving Census Forms to complete and return, next week. Whether or not one thinks sending such an alert letter was tax dollars well spent, receiving such a letter made me wonder if they expect me to sit out by my mail box and wait for it, like I used to do with my pay check years ago when things got tight.
Oh I understand the importance of the Census and we will fill-out the form and return it, but their have been some who question if the Census might go further into an individuakls privacy than contemplated in the U.S. Constitution.
I happened to read an article along those lines this morning.

I was actually suprised to see how not in-depth the census got with personal info. The hype surrounding it made me expect an all-encompassing inquiry from the how much I made to the kind of breakfast ceral I ate (Raisin Bran, by the way). It just wanted the names of everyone in the household and their relationship to the head of household. It also asked what race those individuals were. The only thing that made me scratch my head was instead of using the term "black" they had 3 options: Black, African-American or Negro. While for Caucasian it only said "white". I'm not making a big deal about it but I thought it was interesting and wondered why that was the case.

We received our census form in the mail yesterday, and I too was surprised how short it was. I thought the introduction language about completing the forum so our area would get it's "share" from the federal government was misplaced---redistribution of wealth related and nothing to do with population count for representation in Congress purposes which was the initial purpose for the census.
The only questions that caused me to even think twice was asking for our phone #, and asking if our house was mortgaged or paid for.
Completed it and returned it the same day.

The census is required by the U.S. Constitution and necessary. But in May 2010 95% of the jobs added were census takers (temporary government) and for the President to tout that as good news for the "recovery", in my opinion, is ludicrious!
