"The House tax bill would also raise the cigarette tax by 54 cents a pack, putting it even with Wisconsin's."

"She said her bill would put the tax system more in line with people's ability to pay."

This is too precious. So as I’m walking out of work today, I stop to shake the hands of the smokers to thank them for paying the $.61 per pack (started April 1st) to fund the State Children’s Health Insurance Program Obama implemented (as I do everyday), and I express my new appreciation for them potentially bailing us out of state debt as well with a $.54 tax per pack. One of them asks me what they did to cause the deficit and I just laughed! I says, “Oh you didn’t do it, but the only group of people easier to tax would be the National Baby Seal Clubbers Association! Everyone loves to tax a smoker, buck up and take it like a man!” Well at least it isn’t so cold out anymore, so they got that going for them.

Ben, I think "precious" was a great choice of a descriptive word in this laughable proposal.

What caught my eye in the AP article was: "...Lenczewski characterized her bill as reform that would draw jobs by giving businesses several tax breaks...".

It would seem logical to me that many of those in her proposed 9% state tax bracket would be the small business owners that provide jobs for many Minnesotans. Sometimes I wonder if it's a case of the right hand giveth and the left hand taketh away, or if its a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. What's wrong with some meaningfull, significant spending cuts to reduce the budget deficit?

These people are amazing. What is amazing to me is that we continue to elect most of the same ones election after election.

I read a Thursday article this morning that may not be totally on point with this thread, but rather than start a new thread I thought I would use this one. It is titled: "Obama's Policies Would Redistribute Nearly $1T in Wealth Every Year." The article is based on IRS data, Census Bureau Data, and information taken from the federal budget.

Considering the basis used for the article there is at least a presumption it is credibile, especially since President Obama apparrantly favors redistribution of wealth.
