When I think of the Vikings taking a wide receiver in the first round I instantly think of the Randy Moss pick. Then a few seconds later I remember Troy Williamson. For me these 2 picks were the opposite ends of the spectum. Moss is phonomenal, Williamson couldn't catch a ball reliably. With their first pick this year the Vikes took Percy Harvin. I like the pick. I'm not saying he will be anywhere near as good as Moss, but I think he does have the potential to be a dynamic play maker. Like Moss he slid in the draft due partly to personality issues. He was estimated to go around the time we chose him, unlike Williamson, who wasn't supposed to go as high as he did, based on his ability. I look forward to seeing what he can do.
Rumors of Favre coming to Minnesota have been flying lately. It seems like most of the national sports shows believe he should stay retired. I hope that he proves to be healthy and comes to the Vikes. Nothing against Sage, but I was impressed with how Favre did with the Jets last season, until he became injured. I don't care at all which team he played with previously, as long as he can help us, which if healthy, I believe he can. In my opinion, having another quarterback between T. Jack and the starting job is a good thing.
I am happy with what the Vikes have done and are trying to do in the off season. For the first time in a long time I find myself actually excited for the season to start and to see what the team can do.

A Favre appearance at training camp certainly would create more excitement. I say do it if we believe he can play maybe even six games. He's go too much experience to not be a help.
Plus, Vikes up and down have quality players, like the Williams', but they may not be around for three or even two more seasons to wait for a quaterback to "mature" or "learn the system." Vikes have one or two years here for a championship. We need to strike while the iron is hot.

Usually I am quite decisive on sports issues, but the Favre situation has me baffled. My instincts tell me stay away from him (Green Bay & the Jets had enough of him), but my desire to get the never winning a Super Bowl monkey off our backs makes me want to take a chance. If Wilf's did take the chance I am sure they understand the disruption he could bring to the team members, along with the fact he has only been a Super Bowl winner once himself.
Another issue, at least as important the way I see it, is to get Antowine Winfield signed.

As strange as this sounds, I kind of agree with Bob. I think it would be best for Farve if he retired for good. Since he seems so reluctant to come out of retirement, it would require a lot of money to bribe him to do otherwise. I think Brett would be a one-year player at most, if he is not injured. I think we would be ahead by picking up a great quarterback for years out into the future. Who's available out there? There must be someone good with an expiring contract? I think Brett is going to be very expensive and a gamble.
Also, I agree that we have to take care of our good players to avoid losing them.

As much fun as it would be seeing Favre in Kato, I think his best years are behind him. He only managed to give the Jets 6 or 7 good games. With the messed up shoulder he has, he may have only 6 or 7 passes left.
Besides, coming from a Packer Backer, if he came to MN, he'd still be beating the Vikings, only from within!
It pains me to say it, but I'd like to think the Vikes can find a better QB, one to position them as contenders for longer than 1 year.

The Vikings are 2-0... Favre is indeed with the team, and the last post here was June 2nd? This thread will surely (hopefully) gain a little more attention soon.
Does Favre look a little rusty? Perhaps. Is it due to age, lack of time with the team, a little of both? Probably a little of both. It's a good thing the Vikings opened against Cleveland and Detroit. Both were inferior teams who played the Vikings well in the first half of those games. Half-time adjustments were made and then the Vikings were able to impose their own game plan(s) in the 2nd half of those contests. With time, Favre and the offense will become more in synch and then maybe the first half won't look so, what... poorly executed? San Francisco will be a tougher game than either of the first two, and then it's Green Bay (I think). The fun has begun:)

As I said in this thread back in May I was torn over whether or not the Vikings should sign Favre. Although I did not necessarilly favor the process the signing followed, he is now a Viking and I support him. I think he has done pretty well in the games so far. Two things that I hope happen as the season progresses are: 1) He gets familiar with Berrian on long pass routs. 2) the offensive line gives him more protection so the down the field pass becomes more of a threat.
But I must admit I am more of a Gopher fan than a Vikings fan. I had oppertunity to attend the season opener at TCF Bank Stadium against Air force Acadamy. It was great! Brought back memories of when I used to attend Gopher games back in the late 50's and early 60's in old Memorial Stadium. Now if they could just become as competitive as they were "back in the day".

I think the Vikes have done well so far. My biggest worry is that T. Jack seems to be our #1 backup. If Favre goes down, our season is done. The offensive line looks a bit weak. Favre has taken a pounding so far. Hopefully the line will come together soon. Also the Vikes might have more of a deep passing game if Berrian would catch the ball more consistently.
On an NFL related side note, what do the Eagles do when McNabb returns? Kolb threw for 391 yards in week two and 327 in week three. How do you bench a young qb who threw for a combined 700 yards in his first two starts?

When McNabb returns healthy I think he gets his job back. Most coaches do not like to cause a starter (especially one of McNabb's proven caliber) lose his job after an injury. Whether McNabb can hold the job is another question. But Kolb's performance in McNabb's absence is certainly commendable.
